The first known use of the expression "India pale ale" comes from an advertisement in the Liverpool Mercury newspaper published January 30, 1835.

Came across this limited release of the New Belgium Lips of Faith series. The "SUPER india pale ale". Its a collaboration between the Alpine Beer Company (California) and New Belgium. Man this is good! Great hop bitterness, really a perfect DIPA. I picked one up at Lighthouse beer and wine in Wrightsville Beach and wish I bought more. I found it again yesterday at the Beer and Wine Market/gas station on Coast Guard Rd. in Emerald Isle. Try this one before they stop making it.
Comment by Beer Army on August 15, 2012 at 6:53am Larry, thanks for the info. We'll have to check it out as Nugget Nectar is my # 1 even though Troegs doesn't classify it as an IPA, it is.
Comment by Larry G. Jones on August 14, 2012 at 11:38pm I tried Super IPA, the collaboration beer by Alpine Beer Company and New Belgium, on draft Sunday afternoon at Bottle Revolution....OMG is that one damn fine IPA! It has moved past Stone Tenth Anniversary IPA as my No.1 favorite IPA so far in 2012. This is coming from a guy who loves Heady Topper and Nugget Nectar. 1 1/2 yrs ago I couldn't stand the smell of IPA's and now all I look for our Imperial and Double IPA's!
Also, you must try Sierra Nevada's Hoptimum. They took there Glacied off the line and added the Super crisp, citrus and hop bomb for your taste buds. A must find and enjoy.
Have you tried Thomas Creek "Up the Creek", OMG. Says it is a IIIPA, but more like a Barleywine. ABV at 12.5% with IBUs at 110. Awesome Triple IPA.
There is a new IPA book by Mitch Steele, Brewermaster of Stone. Available late September.
This weekend I tried the O'connor Great Dismal Black IPA on draft at Green Leafe Pub in Williamsburg, Va. A pitch black, very smooth beer with the aroma of roasted malt and a big pine and citrus finish. 7.5% ABV. Enjoyed this one so much we went back the following night and had another.O'connor brewing is out of Norfolk Va.
Comment by James Lafferty on June 15, 2012 at 2:52pm Beer Army, don't worry, there will be a keg at Brew Bern and hopefully the Outpost in the near future. Cheers.

On Saturday June 16th at 6pm, my Black IPA, Vintage Hall, will go on
tap at Front Street Brewery in Wilmington. If you're free come raise a pint with me.
I just picked up two IPA's I've been wanting to try. Greenflash Brewing Company Imperial IPA and idiot IPA from the Coronado brewing Co. Last weekend I had my first Snake Dog IPA from the flying dog brewery. It was a bit weak for my taste. not the best choice if your a real hop head. It just didnt have the bitterness and that citrus and pine aroma I like. It was similar to a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
